This made-for-TV black history DVD tells the tragic story of three civil rights activists who were murdered in Mississippi in 1964 while working to help African-Americans register to vote.
The film’s main focus is on murder victim Michael Schwerner (Tom Hulce), who was relatively well off in life before giving up his comfortable existence to fight the forces of racism in the South. Jennifer Grey plays Schwerner’s wife, Rita.
This black history film is not a mere retread of the classic, Mississippi Burning, which shares the same source material. It tells the origin of the events that led up to the vicious KKK attack on the activists. Blair Underwood co-stars as James Chaney and Josh Charles is Andrew Goodman, the two other victims of the Klan’s wrath.
Learn the real story behind one of the most awful and infamous attacks on activists in the struggle for civil rights and add this seldom-found biopic to your black history DVD collection.
