UP FROM SLAVERY is a black history DVD that is a recounting of the history of slavery in the Americas. Its seven parts tell that story from its beginnings in 1619 to its violent end in 1865.
Throughout all of the intervening years, the American slave lived, loved and toiled in complete anonymity. But, as this film points out, there were always those whose yearning to be free deafened their sense of self-preservation. The film follows the course of events as the abolitionist movement takes root and slaves risk everything for a chance at freedom.
This film is not just history. It is a celebration of the people that built this country from the ground up, by hand. Add it to your black history video collection and build your knowledge of the events that led to its institution and eventual eradication.
